Cruiser skateboards are great for riding the streets, getting you from A to Z as you enjoy the sights and the freedom of the city, all while saving a small fortune on gas and transport costs.
A cruiser board is also eco-friendly, as you won’t be contributing to the suffocating amount of fumes produced by the world’s biggest cities.
But what are the best cruiser skateboards on the market right now and what makes them unique?
Let’s find out.
What is a Cruiser Board?
A cruiser skateboard is longer and more stable than a traditional skateboard. It’s designed to deliver a very smooth ride, and not to perform tricks.
As the name suggests, it’s all about cruising, making it a great alternative to a bicycle. If your goal is to perform street tricks and/or take it to skate parks, cruiser boards are not for you.
The Best Cruiser Boards
Cruiser boards are pretty big right now and you have plenty of options at your disposal, with a board for all styles and budgets.
Here is a selection of our personal favorite cruiser boards. All of these are available from Amazon, making your search a little bit easier.
Cat 7 22″ Complete Mini Cruiser Skateboard
The Cal 7 Mini Cruiser is-as the name suggests-a mini-cruiser board made from durable plastic.
It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. It’s small, the colors are bright, and it’s made from plastic. In fact, it looks like a child’s toy, and many shoppers are actually buying it for their children.
But make no mistake about it, this mini cruiser board can be used by adults and there are many happy (and fully grown) customers out there.
The most popular review opens with the subject line, “Adult human on this board. Deal with it“, which tells you everything that you need to know.
It’s compact, versatile, durable, and very easy to carry. It can also hold up to 176 lbs. and is currently available for less than $40.
There are some complaints suggesting that it’s “okay if you don’t need to replace any parts”, which likely stems from the “straight out of the box” design, but at $40 for a board that should last for hundreds of miles, is that really a problem?
We think not.
You’re not going to get a high-quality maple wood deck or aluminum alloy trucks, and you’ll have to forget about any stylish graphics. But if you’re looking for a small board with a narrow deck that can deliver a comfortable ride, is easy to carry, and can take whatever you throw at it, you should definitely check out this mini cruiser.
Apollo Longboard Skateboard – Weird 39″
There are several different Apollo longboards available on Amazon right now. They are all hosted on the same page and are made from the same high-quality materials (including bamboo, fiberglass, aluminum, and maple) but you can take your pick of many different sizes and styles.
Our personal favorite is the 39″ Weird, which features a beautiful design of a tattooed woman on the underside.
The deck of this cruiser board is a 5-layer design, featuring 3 layers of bamboo and 2 layers of fiberglass, while the trucks are aluminum. Other boards, such as the Galaxy, are made from multiple layers of bamboo.
A lot of thought has been paid to the trucks and wheels, creating the perfect cruiser wheels that deliver a smooth ride over all road surfaces.
All orders feature a T-Tool that lets you adjust the ride to suit your skating style.
Magneto Mino Cruiser Skateboard
Mini cruisers don’t come much better than this, not when you only have $80 to spare.
The Magneto mini cruiser board is available in a few stylish wooden finishers and features a board made from 6 layers of Canadian maple wood with a sand grit finish for extra grip.
It is just 27.5″ in length and features aluminum alloy trucks. There are no plastic parts used in the construction and the board is yours for change on $80.
It’s one of the best mini cruisers on this list and promises a smooth ride for skaters of all ages.
The Playshion Freestyle Longboard Skateboard Cruiser
At an impressive 39 inches, the Playshion Freestyle Longboard Skateboard Cruiser is one of the longest cruisers on this list. It’s also one of the best and is one hell of a mouthful as well.
The Playshion combines an 8-play maple wood skateboard deck with a concave shape that delivers a comfy ride. It’s built to last and has smooth wheels that can tackle rough terrain, making it great for beginner riders.
Sakar Tony Hawk 34″ Cruiser Skateboard
The Sakar Tony Hawk 34″ is a good beginner cruiser skateboard as it has plenty of width and length and costs between $40 and $100, depending on the option you choose.
There are a few bad reviews complaining about “false advertising” and suggesting that the pictures show graphics on both sides of the board when they are only on the underside. As far as we can tell, these complaints are in relation to the Big Mouth Complete Cruiser board, which has the most reviews and is also the only one that shows graphics on top.
It’s a bit misleading if that is the case, but if you do opt for this board and want the graphics on top, remember that you can (and should) return the board and make your displeasure known in a review and/or complaint.
Summary: The Best Cruiser Skateboards
This list covers just a handful of our personal favorite cruiser boards. There are many more out there, and the one that is best for you will depend on everything from your budget to your size, experience, and the type of graphics that you’re looking for.
When purchasing a cruiser board, remember to focus on the quality of the trucks and wheels, as well as the skateboard deck. Don’t let the stylish graphics lure you in and make you purchase a board that isn’t up to scratch, and if you’re looking at mini cruisers, check the weight limit before you buy.
