The popularity of jet boards seems to be rising with every flashy Instagram post and eye-catching YouTube video. Depending on your perspective, these motorized surfboards are either the playthings of rich influencers or high-powered boards for experienced, thrill-seeking surfers.

Whatever you think about them, there’s a good chance you’ve considered buying one of them at some point. At the very least, you’ve probably looked at the price and then decided against it.

If so, this is the guide for you. We’ll take a look at the best jet boards on the market right now, telling you which brands you should be focusing on, which boards you should buy, and how much you can expect to pay.

What is a Jet Board?

Jet boards or electric surfboards are motorized boards that use gas or battery-powered engines to propel the rider across the waves. They can reach huge speeds and are available in a variety of styles and shapes.

Some of the features you should look for when buying an electric surfboard include:

  • Top Speed: How fast does the board go and do you even need a motorized surfboard that can reach such high speeds?
  • Electric Motor or Fuel? Some boards are powered by fuel and others are powered by batteries. An electric model is more eco-friendly, but you’ll also get less from a single charge.
  • Battery Life: If you opt for an electric motor, pay attention to the battery life. How much can you get on a single charge and how long does it take to recharge?
  • Acceleration: While top speed is key, acceleration is just as important. It dictates how quickly you can get up to speed.
  • Portability: How portable is the board? Is it big and heavy or is it inflatable? Inflatable boards are easy to store and transport, making them extremely portable and convenient.

What Are the Best Electric Surfboards?

These are the best electric surfboards right now.

The Lift eFoil

The Lift eFoil is one of the most famous electric surfboards on the market. It features a carbon fiber construction and a lithium-ion battery.

Targeted toward both amateurs and professionals, this electric surfboard can reach speeds of over 30 mph and the latest versions allow you to cruise for up to 2 hours.

Many of these electric surfboards are available for around $14,000.

The Awake Ravik 3 Electric Surfboard

Awake is one of the most exciting brands in the jet board space and the Ravik is their flagship board. This high-performance electric surfboard can reach speeds of over 30 miles per hour and it takes just 4 seconds to get there.

There are 3 speed modes and it takes 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach a full charge.

All boards are made in Sweden and the company ships worldwide. The prices are in Euros, but at the time of writing, the base Awake Ravik 3 model costs around $13,600, with the premium option being closer to $17,000.

The extra cash will turn a 20 to 40-minute ride into a 30 to 60-minute ride.

Lampuga Air Electric Surfboard

The Lampuga is a German-made electric surfboard that can hit speeds of up to 31 mph, making it one of the fastest motorized surfboards on the market.

The Lampuga Air is inflatable and offers a 45-minute ride following 120-minutes of charging. It’s also environmentally friendly, so you don’t need to worry about adding to the growing problem of ocean and air pollution.

The fact that this Lampuga electric surfboard has an inflatable body makes it easy to store and transport, but it doesn’t really do much to reduce the price as this is still an expensive electric surfboard and will cost you over $10,000.

Jetsurf Sport Electric Surfboard

The Jetsurf Sport is an electric surfboard that sells for around $12,000. It is a fuel-powered board that can reach speeds of 30 mph and run for up to 4 hours. It’s one of the most popular motorized surfboards on the market right now, and part of that popularity is down to its safety features.

The Jetsurf Sport includes an automatic shut-off switch that kills the engine when the wrist magnet is disconnected, reducing your chances of losing the board or being involved in an accident.

The Torque Xstream Jet Board

The Xstream Jet Board is a high-powered beast of an electric surfboard that can reach speeds of over 30 mph and weighs around 70 lbs.

There are a few different options available on the Torque website, but many of these were out of stock at the time of writing and there were also several broken links on the website.

It definitely wouldn’t be our first choice and the fact that it doesn’t seem to be widely available is also a worry, but it’s cheap, and if you can’t find or afford the other electric surfboards on this list, it’s worth looking into the Torque Xstream Jet Board.

The Hison Jet Surf

The Hison jet board is a Chinese-made board constructed from fiberglass. At around $7,500, it’s the cheapest of all the electric surfboards on this list, but at 130 lbs. it’s also one of the heaviest.

The Hison electric surfboard is powered by gasoline and not a battery, so that’s also something you’ll need to ponder if you’re thinking about buying this board.

They are incredibly good, but only if you’re into that sort of thing. If you like the idea of racing at speed over the waves on an electric board, you’re going to love electric surfboards. If you prefer to be in control and don’t like the idea of dropping $10,000+ on a board, you should stick with a simple surfboard.
