Buying your first snowboard equipment isn’t just about buying a snowboard, grabbing some snowboard boots, and hitting the slopes.
There are several things to consider and one of the most intimidating steps for new riders is purchasing snowboard bindings.
There are technical terms to learn, measurements to consider, and it can all lead to a massive headache—it’s enough to make you ditch your dreams and turn to skateboarding instead.
The biggest question that first-timers have about snowboard bindings is whether all snowboard boots fit all bindings.
It would certainly make life easier if that was true.
Unfortunately…that’s not the case.
Do All Snowboard Boots Fit All Snowboard Bindings
The simple (and disappointing) answer to this question is: No.
Your snowboard bindings must match the size of your snowboard boots, and in some cases, you will need to buy specific boots or bindings to make sure they match.
That’s the bad news. The good news is that finding snowboard bindings to fit your snowboard boots isn’t that complicated.
What Size Boots and Bindings Do I Need?
When choosing snowboard boots, you need to think about the size of the board and the snowboard bindings.
Snowboard bindings typically come in just four sizes, which helps to simplify things somewhat.
We have listed some snowboard binding sizes below, but it’s worth noting that these vary from brand to brand and you should always check the manufacturer’s size chart before buying.
Sizes of Men’s Snowboard Bindings
- Small Bindings: Boot size 5 to 7.
- Medium Bindings: Boot size 8 and 10. Burton bindings are suitable for an 11 boot size.
- Large Bindings: Boot size 10 to 12.
- Extra Large Size Bindings: If the large snowboard boots don’t fit, you’ll need to look into the extra-large bindings, which go as high as boot size 15.
Sizes of Women’s Snowboard Bindings
- Small Bindings: Size 1.5 to 4.5.
- Medium Bindings: Size 4.5 to 7.5.
- Large Bindings: For sizes 7 and over.
- Extra Large Size Bindings: For sizes that exceed the “large” bindings.
Can You Use Any Boots for Snowboarding?
Most first-time snowboarders ask this question, and it’s perfectly understandable.
After all, snowboard boots are expensive, and if you always have a good pair of boots, why should you buy new ones?
But most boots are not suited to snowboarding.
They are not designed for that purpose and likely won’t provide the necessary ankle/foot support.
They will also struggle to fit most bindings and it’s never a smart idea to start compromising comfort and safety when you’re just getting started.
What Are Burton Step On Bindings?
Burton snowboard bindings are some of the best in the business, just like everything else that Burton makes.
One of the brand’s most notable products is its step on bindings.
These snowboard bindings are designed to be easier to use than standard bindings.
Simply tuck the cuff of your snowboard pants into the clip of your snowboard boot and slide the boot until you hear a “click”.
Step on bindings fit a variety of boot sizes and can be purchased directly from Burton or its many retail partners.
